ROCKINGHAM — A dormant second half by the Richmond Senior High School junior varsity football team led to a loss Wednesday.
Hosting Pinecrest High School in their second Sandhills Athletic Conference game of the season, the JV Raiders lost 22-9.
The defeat ended a season-long four-game winning streak for Richmond.
All of Richmond’s points were scored in the opening two stanzas. Michael Mack returned a red zone interception for a pick-six and the defense recorded a safety. Jake Gardner had an extra point.
Pinecrest (4-1, 1-0 SAC) scored three rushing scores from Tyler Johnson in the second half. The running back also added a pair of two-point conversions.
Richmond struggled on special teams early in the second half, allowing two botched punts to set up a short field for the JV Patriots. Both miscues led to a score.
Shamir Jones (fumble recovery) and CJ Covington (interception) recorded defensive takeaways.
The JV Raiders (4-2, 1-1 SAC) will travel to Hoke County High School (4-2, 1-1 SAC) Thursday. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
