ROCKINGHAM — In its season finale on Thursday, the Richmond junior varsity football team lost to neighboring rival Scotland High School.
Dropping their third straight game to end the campaign, the JV Raiders lost 20-7.
Scotland took a 6-0 lead in the second quarter on a five-yard rushing score courtesy of Samier Pate.
Early in the third quarter, another short rushing score by Pate and a two-point conversion put the JV Scots ahead 14-0.
Richmond used a kickoff return to midfield by freshman Chance Crowder to set up its only score of the game.
On first down from the 50-yard line, sophomore quarterback Caden Nolan connected with Crowder for a long catch and run score.
Sophomore kicker Jake Veach tacked on the point-after attempt to make it 14-7 with 3:45 left in the third.
Despite getting the ball back on a fourth-down stop, Richmond turned the ball over on a fumble. That led to Scotland’s final touchdown, a one-yard run by Dominic Blue.
Later in the fourth quarter, an interception by Scotland helped ice the win for the visitors.
The JV Raiders went 2-7 this season with a 2-5 record against Sandhills Athletic Conference opponents.
