ROCKINGHAM — A renewed sense of urgency pulsed through the Richmond Senior High School gymnasium on Monday.
Despite temperatures reaching the mid 80s, the first day of winter sports tryouts were held. The Lady Raider basketball program had 26 players in attendance.
Looking to get back to the team’s success from two seasons ago, head coach Teddy Moseley directed the practice as he began his sixth season at the helm.
Part of the buzz included the full return junior point guard Jamyia Lindsey, who is 100 percent healthy following a knee injury during the summer of 2022.
Earlier this school year, Lindsey verbally committed to play at North Carolina A&T State University.
During the tryout, players worked on conditioning and passing drills, free throws, shooting and ended with a scrimmage..
The Lady Raiders will hold two more days of tryouts on Tuesday and Wednesday before the first official practice will be held on Thursday. Richmond hopes to field a varsity and junior varsity this season.
The Richmond Observer will continue its coverage of all of Richmond’s winter sports programs in the coming months.
