ROCKINGHAM — Another season of Richmond Senior High School softball got underway this week, continuing on Tuesday with the program’s second day of tryouts.

Fourth-year head coach Mike Way, along with assistant Andy Shuler, led a combined practice with varsity and junior varsity players. Also helping were JV coaches Jordan Fortune and Caroline Wilson.

There were 24 players at Tuesday’s workout, which saw them participate in a scrimmage. Varsity and junior varsity players were mixed together and a variety of pitchers took the circle for live action.

Way and company will hold one more day of tryouts before officially selecting teams and beginning practice later in the week.

The Lady Raiders are two weeks away from their season opener on Feb. 28 at home against non-conference Randleman High School.

The Richmond Observer will publish a season preview, complete with video interviews of players and coaches, in the coming weeks.
