ROCKINGHAM — A sweep was the way the Richmond Senior High School volleyball team started its season Monday.
Kicking off the new campaign at home, the Lady Raiders defeated non-conference Forest Hills High School 3-0.
Richmond won the first set 25-13, thanks in part to an 11-0 run with senior setter Ava Edmondson at the service line. She had five aces in the first set.
Taking the second set 25-15, Richmond jumped ahead 10-1. Both Edmondson and sophomore libero Kenley Smith got it rolling with multiple aces apiece.
A strong effort by the whole team yielded a 25-8 score in the final set. Sophomore middle hitter Riley McDonald and junior outside hitter J’Nasia Neal were two of the several contributors to register kills.
Richmond (1-0) travels to Harnett Central High School (0-0) Tuesday for another non-conference match. The varsity-only competition will start at 7 p.m.
