PHOTOS: Lady Raiders vs. Red Springs

ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior High School girls’ basketball team cruised its way to a season-opening victory on Friday.

Tipping off the 2023-24 slate, the Lady Raiders rolled over non-conference Red Springs High School 72-37.

Nine of Richmond’s players found the basket, with junior point guard Jamyia Lindsey leading all scorers with 25 points. She added five rebounds.

Sophomore point guard Jasiah Gilchrist, who made her debut for the team, netted 19 points.

Other contributors were freshman Madisen Jackson (seven points), senior MaKailah Jackson (five points), junior Rena Drake (five points) and seniors Ryelan Lyerly (four points) and Yasmen McLaughlin (four points).

The Lady Raiders led 12-9 after the first quarter and pulled ahead 39-19 at halftime. Lindsey and Gilchrist combined for 22 points in the second period.

Much of the second half consisted of Richmond finding the basket to open its lead.

Richmond (1-0) hits the road next Monday to non-conference Grace Christian School (1-0). Action will start at 6 p.m.
