ROCKINGHAM — Mopar power was on full display at Rockingham Dragway this weekend for one of the track’s signature events.
Mopars at the Rock featured drag-racing showdowns between Challengers and Chargers, Darts and Dusters, and other Dodge, Plymouth and Chrysler cars, both old and new; as well as a car show and jet car demonstrations from The Black Pearl and Wicked Sinsation, the latter driven by Dawn Perdue.
Modern Street HEMI Shootout — a series co-founded by Dragway co-owner Dan VanHorn — teamed up with the event for its second race of the season.
The event brought quite a crowd to Richmond County, drawing participants from 17 states, with an average travel distance of 344 miles. The farthest distance traveled was more than 1,000 miles, according to the Dragway.

Last year’s Mopars at the Rock had to be rescheduled for the fall. After that, Dragway owners decided to host two events each year. The second one is slated for Nov. 15-16.
