ROCKINGHAM — The 60th anniversary of the Ford Mustang was celebrated at Rockingham Dragway this weekend during the NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals.

Ford’s popular muscle car was first released in 1964 and there was plenty of pony power on the track, including classic Fastbacks and third-generation Fox bodies.

Organizers began setting up on Wednesday and the action started Friday, but was sidetracked in the late afternoon due to a storm.

Racing resumed on Saturday as the track and skies cleared, with drivers going head-to-head in several classes.

The event also included a jet car showdown between Dawn Perdue and Larry Aldrich, with each taking a win;, a BMX show; and the world’s largest Bigfoot monster truck. Perdue will be back for the fall edition of Mopars at the Rock Nov. 15-16.
