ROCKINGHAM — Creating a lot of buzz last season, the Richmond Raider basketball team hopes to carry the same energy into its new season.

On Tuesday, the Raiders and sixth-year head coach Donald Pettigrew held the second day of winter sports tryouts.

Nearly 30 players attended the tryout, hoping to make the varsity or junior varsity squad.

Players started the practice by working on conditioning, passing and layup drills, before Pettigrew split them up into groups to scrimmage.

Wednesday will be another tryout day and Thursday will be the first day of official practice.

Richmond will open its season on Nov. 18 at home against non-conference Purnell Swett High School.
