ROCKINGHAM — Another winter sport program got its tryouts started at Richmond Senior High School on Monday.

The boys’ indoor track and field team, back for its second season under head coach John Rich, held the first day of its new season at Raider Stadium.

Other programs around campus that have already held their tryout period include boys’ and girls’ basketball, girls’ indoor track and field, swimming and wrestling.

A total of 19 track and field student-athletes participated on Monday, and Rich said he expects more to join next week after giving football players extra time to rest.

Monday’s tryout consisted of stretching and warm-up drills, a country mile endurance run and abdominal and core workouts.

The Raiders will hold one more day of tryouts on Tuesday before beginning official practices on Wednesday.

The Richmond Observer will continue its coverage of all of Richmond’s winter sports programs in the coming months.
