ROCKINGHAM — Friday was also a special night for the Richmond Senior High School band and color guard members who will graduate in the spring.

During half time, with the Raider football team leading 35-6 against Seventy-First High School, the 14 seniors of the Raider Marching Band and color guard were recognized for their service to the respective programs. Escorted by parents and family members from midfield, the marching band seniors were met by first-year band director Edwin Carter.

Carter, along with Raider Band Fans president Randy Stubbs, presented each member with a gold medal emblazoned with his or her name on it. Following the presentation, the Marching Raiders did what they do best and performed their show “Dreams of Persia.”

“It was a great night for our seniors,” Stubbs said. “We also have new band uniforms and new percussion this year.

“We want to thank Richmond County Schools and all our sponsors for helping us do that,” he added. “This is the first set of new uniforms since the early 2000s. We wanted to keep the old traditional style with the hats but make them more modern.”

Stubbs also tipped his cap to Gus Bellamy, the Raider Band Fans vice president, for his helping hand in ordering the new threads.

This year’s senior band and color guard members were: Arianna Adams, Annie Bartlett, Carlie Bass, Gabrielle Bellanger, Annika Carpenter, Naiyah Dixon, Ashanti Gayle, Shakira Little, Ashley Martin, Ashaya Prentice, Matthew Quick, Aerial Spooner, Laila Wall and Anakin White.
