ROCKINGHAM — Two more spring sport student-athletes were celebrated Monday afternoon.
The Richmond Senior High School boys tennis team took time ahead of its regular-season finale to recognize Brent Humann and Will Whitley.
On senior night, Humann and Whitley were joined by family members, teammates, classmates and teachers to celebrate their contributions to the program.
Whitley has been a member of the tennis team since his freshman year and has been a starter the past two seasons. Humann, who joined his sophomore season, has been a regular on the court the last two springs as well.
The two soon-to-be graduates have known each other since preschool and have competed with and against each other much of their lives.
“Will and Brent have been with our program a long time,” head coach Jessica Covington said. “They have both become leaders of our team as seniors and have played so well this season. They’ve improved so much and I’m very proud of them.
“We are a small team and these two seniors are two of our starters,” she added. “It will be tough losing them and their experience, but I’m grateful to have had them both with us the last several years. We wish them good luck in the future.”
Covington introduced each senior, who was met by teammates and presented a gift basket. Juniors Jordan Jacobs and Matthew Leggett also spoke on behalf of their senior teammates.
The Richmond Observer will publish an article of Monday’s regular-season finale against Scotland High School soon.
