ROCKINGHAM — The base paths were lined and the buzz of baseballs being hit around the diamond echoed on Richmond’s campus as the Raiders held their first day of practice on Wednesday.

With tryouts held earlier in the week, 30 players made the cut for varsity and junior varsity this year..

Helping throw batting practice was head coach Rob Ransom, who enters his fourth year at the helm of the program.

Assistants Ty Bostick, Ralph Butler, Corey Wallace and junior varsity head coach Ryan Mercer also participated.

Players worked on infield and outfield drills, while also taking rounds of batting practice.

Ransom and the Raiders will hit the road for their first game of the season on Feb. 28 at non-conference Butler High School.

The Richmond Observer will publish a season preview, complete with video interviews of players and coaches, in the coming weeks.
