ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Raider football team notched its first win in August for the first time in three seasons Saturday.
Upsetting ranked Butler High School, the Raiders and head coach Brad Denson rolled to a 26-7 victory.
After falling behind 7-0 early in the first quarter, Richmond rallied to score 26 unanswered points.
Junior quarterback Evan Hodges threw a touchdown pass to senior running back Jordan Bostick, and both players also scored one rushing touchdown apiece.
Chris Covington, a senior defensive back, recorded the first of four second-half turnovers at the start of the third quarter. His fumble recovery went for the other score.
Junior linebacker Terande Spencer added a fumble recovery and an interception. Also scooping up a loose ball was junior defensive lineman Jaylen Wilson.
Richmond (1-1) hits the road next Friday to face another top team in the East against Cardinal Gibbons High School (1-0). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
