DILLON, S.C. — Positive takeaways helped put points up on the board for the Richmond Senior High School football team during Friday’s scrimmage.
The Raiders used three interceptions and two passing touchdowns to defeat West Florence High School 14-7 in the Jamboree of Champions hosted by Dillon High School.
An early hiccup on fourth-and-long by the Richmond defense yielded the Knights’ only score. On the next five West Florence possessions, the Raiders forced three picks and two punts.
A trio of seniors — AJ Covington, Keidreion Crump and Joe Parsons — combined for the three interceptions.
Covington’s pick near midfield led to a 42-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Evan Hodges to junior wide receiver Amer Morrison.
Parsons played a role in Crump’s takeaway, batting the ball up and creating an easy tip drill. The final play of the scrimmage resulted in Parsons’ pick, a sliding catch on a ball thrown too short to its intended receiver.
Junior wideout Jayden Hamilton turned a short pass in the right flat from Hodges into an 84-yard score after a West Florence punt. Senior kicker Billy West tacked on both point-after attempts.
The Raiders begin game week prep for Seventy-First High School Monday. The season will officially open Friday on the road against the Falcons.
The Richmond Observer will publish its Raider football season preview in Monday’s edition, complete with interviews with over a dozen players and coaches.
