RALEIGH — During Friday’s game, the Richmond Senior High School football team didn’t register a point for the first time since 2016.

Kicking off a stretch of four straight road games, the Raiders lost 31-0 to Cardinal Gibbons High School.

Facing the reigning 4A state champions, the Raiders recorded 124 yards of total offense and punted on nine of their offensive drives.

Whitt Newbauer, Cardinal Gibbons’ junior quarterback, threw three passing touchdowns to two different receivers. Joshua Stoneking added a rushing score and Daniel Monti hit a 26-yard field goal.

Richmond managed to cross midfield on a couple drives in the second half, but couldn’t find the end zone.

Early in the first quarter, senior nose tackle Urijah McDonald and senior linebacker Zyion Baldwin both recovered a fumble to stop the Crusaders inside of the 30-yard line.

The Raiders (0-3) continue their month-long road trip next Friday at South View High School (0-2), with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
