ROCKINGHAM — The cooler temperatures this week have been a welcomed adjustment for the Richmond Senior High School indoor track and field teams.
With the start of a new season just a few weeks away, the Raiders and Lady Raiders have been training for their new slate.
Despite being an indoor sport, many of the teams’ races are held at outdoor venues.Close to 40 runners, jumpers and throwers were in attendance at Thursday’s practice.
Head coach Reggie Miller returns for another season at the head of the program, while new this year is the addition of the boys’ team, which will be coached by John Rich.
Several starters for the girls’ team are returning this winter with a hope of competing for a state championship in a variety of events.
Also using the indoor season as a warmup for the spring track and field season, Richmond’s athletes ran through a series of conditioning drills and worked on mechanics.
The Raiders and Lady Raiders will compete in their first meet of the season during the first week of December.
