ROCKINGHAM — The final senior night celebration of Richmond’s fall sports season was held on Wednesday.

The Richmond Raider soccer team recognized its 10 senior players ahead of its last home match of the season.

This year’s seniors were Gio Armenta, Jesus Castro, James Eason, Edwin Estrada, Samuel Hawks, Danny Jaimes, Vernan McDonald, Diego Mendez, Matteo Rubbiano and Noah Williams (who has missed the season to injury).

Starting at midfield and walking toward the stands, each player was introduced by public address announcer Zane Searcy.

Joining the senior players were family members. Their underclassmen teammates lined up on either side before they were met by coaches Chris Larsen and Bennie Howard.

As a token of appreciation, each player received a flag with Richmond’s crest and their number on it.

“Senior night is always a special occasion where we get to show our guys our appreciation for all they’ve done for the program,” Larsen said. “This group started out their careers in the COVID-shortened winter season and has been a strong group that has grown our program.

“Many of the guys have been multi-year starters on varsity and have guided the team with their leadership,” he added. “Each person has played his role well and the team is better for their time here. We’ll miss them, but we’re excited to see what the future holds.”

The Richmond Observer will publish results from Wednesday’s match soon.
