RALEIGH — Four local wrestlers placed in the 2022 BodyArmor State Games over the weekend.

The Raider Amateur Wrestling Club (RAW) and head coach Earl Nicholson sent six wrestlers to compete in the event held at the Raleigh Convention Center on Saturday.

In what was the program’s final event of the 2021-22 season, the Raider wrestlers placed in three different weight classes.

Isaac Nunley placed second overall in the 12U, 135-pound weight class, and Jason Gainey also took second place in the 14U,185-pound tournament.

Adding to the impressive performance were a pair of third-place finishes for RAW. Nesean McBride (14U, 125-pound) and Adam Estridge (16U, 145-pound) earned medals in their respective divisions.

RAW will continue to train this summer from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays at Richmond County Ninth Grade Academy.

“We are still looking for more wrestlers so that eventually we can have a full dual team,” Nicholson said. “Our weight classes range from 40 pounds to 285 pounds.”

For those who are interested in joining, Nicholson can be reached at coachnic2@gmail.com. For over a quarter century, Nicholson led the Richmond Senior High School wrestling program from 1994 to 2020.
