ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior High School boys’ tennis team continued Sandhills Athletic Conference play at home on Monday.
The Raiders collected their second straight conference win, rolling past Lee County High School 7-2.
Defending their home court, the Raiders used four singles wins and a singles forfeit to take a 5-1 lead. Richmond and the Yellow Jackets played to the best-of-three sets.
The No. 2 through No. 5 Raiders all earned a win. No. 2 junior Matthew Burns collected a win over Joshua Bette, defeating him 6-2 and 6-1.
Adding another win to their season total, making it four apiece, were No. 3 junior Ethan McDonald and No. 4 freshman Jordan Jacobs. McDonald held off Sean Kim 6-2 and 6-0, while Jacobs made quick work against Jackson Gaines 6-1 and 6-0.
Rounding out the singles wins was No. 5 senior Thomas Kvapil, who defeated Tyler Kirkner 6-1 and 6-4. Lee County only had five players and had to forfeit the No. 6 singles match.
Winning the lone singles match for the Yellow Jackets was No. 1 Jacob Womble, who won against Ty Murray 6-0 and 6-1.
With the win secured heading into doubles, the Raiders also got another point thanks to a forfeit in the No. 3 doubles match.
Also adding a win in doubles were McDonald and Jacobs in the No. 2 pairing. They defeated Gaines and Kim 8-1. Murray and Burns lost 5-8 to Womble and Bette in the No. 1 contest.
Richmond (3-3, 3-3 SAC) will return to action on Tuesday with an away match at Southern Lee High School. Play will start at 4 p.m.
