Raiders face off against Hoke County in two-team meet

ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior High School boys track and field team went head-to-head with Hoke County High School Wednesday.

The only two teams competing in the Sandhills Athletic Conference meet, the Bucks earned 72 points to the Raiders’ 37 points.

Points were awarded for the top three spots in each event. Winners received five points, second place got three points and third place was awarded one point.

The Raiders earned three wins, five runner-up finishes and seven third-place results.

Winning one event each and registering five points apiece were Demetrius Everette, Keonta Pegues and Domonic Tillman.

Everette won the 400-meter dash in 55.70 seconds, Pegues sprinted to a win in the 100-meter dash (10.87 seconds) and Tillman landed at 37 feet, 6 inches to place atop the triple jump.

Pegues also picked up one of the second-place times, running the open 200-meter in 23.28 seconds.

Taking second and third in the 800-meter run were Cameron Gladden and James Coicou. Gladden ran a 2:16.83 and Coicou was right behind him with a time of 2:19.21.

Richmond also took third place in the 100 and 400-meter dashes, putting two runners in the top three of both events. Deshaun Ingram ran the 100-meter dash in 11.24 seconds and Christian Surgent clocked in at 56.13 seconds in the open 400.

Jordan Hamilton earned second and third place in the discus and shot put. His discus throw was 96 feet, 11 inches and he cracked the top three in the shot put with a launch of 32 feet, 7 inches.

In the long jump, Tyrese Collins and Jordan Bostick placed second and third, respectively. Collins landed at 18 feet, 2 inches and Bostick had a mark of 16 feet, 10 inches.

Tillman was third in the 110-meter hurdles (16.32 seconds), Hayden Smith ran the 1600-meter run in 5:44.49 for third and Richmond’s 4×800-meter relay team took second (10:22).
