ROCKINGHAM — A slow night at the plate for the Richmond Senior High School baseball team cost the Raiders their second straight game to start Sandhills Athletic Conference play.

Collecting just two hits, both from sophomore Camron Seagraves, the Raiders lost to Pinecrest High School 14-2 in six innings on Tuesday.

The Raiders used four pitchers in the game, who combined to allow 10 walks and 6 hits. Seven of Pinecrest’s 14 runs were unearned, as the Raiders committed four errors on defense.

The Patriots took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, and the Raiders responded with two runs in the home half.

James Eason (hit-by-pitch) and Matthew Walker (catcher’s interference) both crossed home plate courtesy of errors.

Pinecrest scored four runs in the second and five runs in the third inning, before adding its final three runs in the top of the sixth.

Head coach Rob Ransom said the loss came down to not making routine plays, allowing too many walks and giving up hits with runners on base.

Richmond (3-2, 0-2 SAC) will travel to Pinecrest (5-1, 1-0 SAC) on Friday and try to even the season series. The Raiders and Patriots will begin at 7 p.m.

Note: The Richmond junior varsity baseball team did not play on Tuesday due to not having umpires available.

Head coach Ryan Mercer said the JV Raiders will play a doubleheader (two five-inning games) at home against Pinecrest on Friday.
