ROCKINGHAM — Five players were recognized by the Richmond Raider football program Monday, albeit with a little bit of a shake up from previous weeks.
Continuing its “player of the week” honors, the Richmond coaching staff elected to go with two offensive players, a defensive player, as well as a practice player and lifter.
For the first time in eight games this season, a special teams player wasn’t included in the bunch.
The Raiders cruised past Union Pines High School 27-8 during their homecoming game Friday, their fifth consecutive victory.
The players of the week are:
Offense: Tyler McKenzie (junior offensive lineman) and Keonta Pegues (junior wide receiver)
Defense: Zy Martin (senior linebacker)
Practice: Jason Gainey (junior linebacker)
Weight Room: Chris Covington (senior defensive back)
Top Guns Strength and Performance Gym, which sponsors the weekly shoutout of the Raider football players, presented each of the players of the week with a t-shirt.
Head coach Brad Denson and the Richmond football staff select each week’s players based on performance in their respective area.
The Raiders (6-2, 4-0 SAC) currently sit atop the Sandhills Athletic Conference standings and will play their final regular-season home game Friday at Lee County High School (4-3, 1-2 SAC). Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
