ROCKINGHAM — The program’s first playoff win in three years was cause for celebration to start the new week of practice for the Richmond Senior High School football team.
Beginning the NCHSAA 4A East state playoffs last Friday, No. 4 Richmond thumped No. 29 Topsail High School 42-6.
Part of the celebration was naming the team’s five players of the week, which has become a weekly tradition for Richmond and first-year head coach Brad Denson.
The players of the week are:
Offense: Amer Morrison (junior wide receiver)
Defense: Jordan Hamilton (junior defensive end)
Special Teams: Chris Covington (senior blocker)
Practice: Elijah Ingram (sophomore linebacker)
Weight Room: Tate Simpson (senior defensive tackle)
Top Guns Strength and Performance Gym, which sponsors the weekly shoutout of the Raider football players, presented each of the players of the week with a t-shirt.
Denson and the Richmond football staff select each week’s players based on performance in their respective area.
The No. 4 Raiders (9-2) will host No. 13 Clayton High School (10-1) in the second round of the state playoffs Friday. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
The Richmond Observer will publish a game preview later this week.
