ST. PAULS, N.C. — Monday’s season opener didn’t go as planned for the Richmond Senior High School soccer team.

Not because of how the Raiders played, but instead because of Mother Nature.

Traveling to St. Pauls High School for their first match of the year, the non-conference meeting was postponed due to inclement weather.

Heavy rain and lightning in the area stopped play with 11:09 left in the first half of the junior varsity game, which was scoreless at the time.

After trying to wait out the weather for 30 minutes, head coach Chris Larsen announced the postponement of the JV and varsity games due to water accumulation on the field and concern for the student-athletes’ safety.

The make-up games have been moved to Tuesday at Richmond. The JV team will start a fresh game at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity Raiders at 7 p.m.

Both teams will travel to Porter Ridge High School on Wednesday. Game times are also 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
