ROCKINGHAM — The only undefeated spring sports program remaining added to its perfect start on Tuesday.
Richmond’s boys’ tennis team notched its fourth consecutive victory to start the season, cruising past Scotland High School 8-1.
The Raiders secured the Sandhills Athletic Conference win by taking all six of the singles matches, and took two of the three doubles matches for good measure.
Playing the best of three sets in singles, No. 1 senior Ty Murray earned a tiebreak win over Cole Hamilton. Murray dropped the first set 2-6, but rallied to win 6-2 and 7-5.
No. 2 senior Matthew Burns defeated Ricky Zhang 6-4, 7-5 and No. 3 senior Ethan McDonald earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over David Reyes.
Adding singles wins were No. 4 sophomore Jordan Jacobs (6-2, 6-1) in his match with Thomas Buie, No. 5 junior Brent Humann won 6-2, 6-1 against Andrew Nor and No. 6 junior Will Whitley picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kishawn Pate.
The No. 1 duo of Murray and Burns and the No. 3 pairing of Humann and Whitley added doubles wins. Murray and Burns won 8-5 over Zhang and Reyes and Humann and Whitley defeated Nor and Pate 8-1.
Scotland’s lone win came in the No. 2 doubles match as Hamilton and Buie edged McDonald and Jacobs 9-7.
The Raiders (4-0, 4-0 SAC) will face a big test on the road Thursday at Pinecrest High School. Matches will start at 4 p.m.
