Raiders win SAC meet over Lee County, Scotland; Lady Raiders 3rd

SANFORD — The Richmond Senior High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams used Thursday’s Sandhills Athletic Conference meet as a tune up for one of their biggest events of the season.

Competing at Lee County High School, the Raiders earned another conference meet win with 63 points. Finishing second was Scotland (36 points) and the Yellow Jackets were third (31 points).

The Lady Raiders took third out of the three teams with 26 points, but head coach Reggie Miller said the team was limited due to preparation for the Queen City Relays.

Raiders cruise to SAC meet victory

Richmond collected the majority of its points in sprints (20), distance (13) and hurdles (13). The Raiders added 17 combined points between relays, throws and jumps.

Earning victories in 10 events, the Raiders added three runner-ups, five third-place marks and three fourth-place finishes.

Taye Spencer won two events — the 200-meter dash (23.00 seconds) and the shot put (41 feet, 6 inches). Adding wins in sprints were Aaron Coleman in the 100-meter dash (10.93 seconds) and Travion Smith in the open 400-meter (54.38 seconds).

Distance winners were Jemell Bingham in the 800-meter run (2:22.91) and Cameron Gladden in the 1600-meter race (5:17.78). Nicholas Griggs (16.12 seconds) and Emerson Wall (45.83 seconds) each won the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles, respectively.

Rounding out the wins were the 4×100-meter relay team (42.84 seconds) and Ahaiver McDonald in the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches).

Finishing second were Emoni McBride (100-meter, 11.5 seconds), Jordan Bostic (800-meter, 2:23.68) and Dillon Veach (300-meter hurdles, 46.05).

Taking third in their respective events were Jyneil Scott (200-meter, 24.02 seconds), Linden Garcia (400-meter, 55.91 seconds), McDonald (long jump, 17 feet, 11 inches), Damon Bryant (shot put, 36 feet, 7 inches) and the 4×800 relay team (10:41.69).

Richmond’s two fourth-place finishers were Gray Maultsby in the discus (105 feet, 8 inches) and Domonic Tillman in the long jump (17 feet, 7 inches).

Lady Raiders conserve energy at SAC meet

The Lady Raiders had two wins on Thursday, accompanied by four runner-ups, three third-place marks and five fourth-place finishes.

Akeya Harrison won the 200-meter dash (25.96 seconds) and Ja’Mya Fuller took first in the triple jump (28 feet, 7.5 inches).

Most of Richmond’s points came in jumping events. Taking second through fourth in the triple jump were Nyla Stroman (28 feet, 7 inches), Anayjah Dumas (26 feet, 3 inches) and Fallon Little (25 feet, 9 inches).

A trio of Lady Raiders took second in their event — Fuller in the 100-meter hurdles (16.97 seconds), Isis Covington in the open 200 (26.09 seconds) and Rena Drake in the high jump (4 feet, 4 inches).

Dumas (19.13 seconds) and Stroman (19.41 seconds) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 100-meter hurdles. Also going third and forth in the discus were Aniston Griggs (63 feet, 6 inches) and Jasmine Jennings (47 feet, 1 inch).

Collecting a pair of fourth-place points were Tenaziah McNeil in the 100-meter dash (13.12 seconds) and Ella Parker in the shot put (28 feet, 1 inch).
