ROCKINGHAM – The Richmond Senior High School Lady Raider tennis team will have to wait a couple more days to get its 2019 season started.

Originally set to begin regular season play Monday afternoon, a series of thunderstorms swept through the Richmond County, ultimately postponing the match. Richmond and first-year head coach Neely Herndon were scheduled to host newly-formed Montgomery Central High School.

After waiting nearly 45 minutes for the weather to pass, Herndon and Lady Timberwolves’ head coach Zach Brewer decided to call it. The courts had some standing water on them and lighting and thunder were still in the vicinity, deeming it unsafe to play.

The two teams were already scheduled to play another non-conference match on Thursday at West Montgomery High School. Both head coaches agreed to play a double header there, with the first match set for 4 p.m.

Herndon said the Lady Raiders will practice on Tuesday, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
