Rain washes out varsity soccer at Sun Valley, JV match suspended

MONROE — The Richmond boys’ soccer team is 0-for-2 when trying to play at Sun Valley High School.

For the second time in the past two seasons, the Raiders’ non-conference road match was postponed due to inclement weather.

Last season, the team made it halfway to Sun Valley before the match was called. Monday’s match was rescheduled just prior to the original start time with the junior varsity game suspended due to storms.

Head coach Chris Larsen said the Raiders (1-1) and Spartans (1-1) have made arrangements to make up the match Oct. 3 at Richmond.

The JV Raiders saw their match finalized in a 1-1 draw with Sun Valley. The weather delay started near the midway point of the second half.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Richmond knotted the match up early in the second half. Freshman Aris McLendon netted his first goal of the season on a header for the equalizer.

With the draw, the JV Raiders moved to 1-1-1 on the season.

Larsen said Richmond will practice the next two days in preparation for its home matches Thursday with Porter Ridge High School. The JV match will start at 5:15 p.m., followed by varsity at 7 p.m.
