HAMLET — Less than a week after Richmond Senior High School saw former athletic director and head baseball coach Ricky Young resign his posts, his replacement has been selected.

Cordova Middle School Principal Robert Ransom will fill the role, Richmond County Schools Public Information Officer Jasmine Hager confirmed Thursday.

The Richmond County Board of Education approved the hire in a closed-session meeting Thursday evening.

Ransom has served as the head principal at Rohanen and Cordova middle schools the last three school years, and was an assistant principal at Hamlet Middle School prior to that under current RSHS Principal Jim Butler.

He was one of several RCS employees to apply for the job.

Young, who stepped down last week, had been Richmond’s athletic director since Jan. 2014, and coached the varsity baseball team all 10 years he was with the school.

It is not known at this time if Ransom will take over the head baseball coaching responsibilities.

This is a developing story.
