ROCKINGHAM – With the fall sports season winding down, the Amateur Athletic Union’s wrestling season isn’t too far around the corner.
The Richmond Amateur Wrestling (RAW) club will be having sign ups on Monday, October 16, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the gymnasium at Richmond Senior High School.
The club, which is associated with the AAU, is open to all interested boys ages six to 14. Weight classes will range from 40 pounds up to 275 pounds.
Fees for the season include $14 for AAU insurance card, and $10 per month for club expenses and equipment for athletes (shirts, shorts, singlets, and headgear).
Following Monday’s signup meeting, the club will practice every Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at RSHS in the Raider Wrestling room.
“Until we get a middle school wrestling program in the county,” head coach Joseph Earl Nicholson said, “this is a great alternative to give our kids a solid foundation in the sport of wrestling prior to getting to the high school.”
For more information regarding RAW and AAU wrestling, please contact Nicholson on Facebook or at Hamlet Middle school after 1:30 p.m. at (910) 582-7903.
