Richmond basketball games rescheduled

ROCKINGHAM — In anticipation of possible severe weather Tuesday, Richmond Senior High School’s basketball games have been rescheduled.

Athletic director Mike Way made the announcement Monday afternoon saying that the Lady Raiders’ and Raiders’ games against Union Pines High School had been moved to Thursday.

The Sandhills Athletic Conference games will be played at Union Pines beginning at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.

At the time of publication, Richmond County and several other counties across the Sandhills were under a wind advisory for Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, the region could see, “Southwest wind 16 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.”

The Lady Raiders (9-4, 3-0 SAC) will look to win their third straight game against the Lady Vikings (7-6, 1-1 SAC).

The Raiders (9-4, 3-0 SAC), who still sit alone in first place in the SAC standings, will try to do the same against the Vikings (9-4, 1-1 SAC).

Richmond’s junior varsity boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will also play Thursday at home, with the girls beginning at 5 p.m.

Richmond County Schools announced Tuesday will be a remote day for students and an optional day for staff members.
