HOPE MILLS — The Richmond Senior High School girls’ basketball team suffered its second loss in as many nights on Wednesday.

Competing in the Cumberland County Holiday Classic, the Lady Raiders lost to East Columbus High School 46-18.

Head coach Teddy Moseley noted that the team got off to another slow start on offense. As a result, he said, a “lack of scoring” made it difficult for Richmond against the Lady Gators.

East Columbus jumped out to an 18-5 lead after the opening quarter. Scoring for the Lady Raiders were juniors Keyoni Nichols and C’Niya Hinson, who hit a three-pointer and a field goal, respectively.

A closer second quarter saw Richmond outscored 10-7, with four points coming from junior center Makailah Jackson. She finished the game with a team-high six points.

Senior Nyla Stroman netted all of her points on a three-pointer, and the Lady Raiders trailed 28-12 at the break.

In the third quarter, Richmond scored its final six points of the game. Freshman guard J’Nasia Neal hit a pair of buckets for her four points and Jackson added another field goal.

East Columbus (7-3) scored 12 points in the third quarter and added six more points in the final stanza.

Malia Graham and Destiney Mitchell both scored a game-high 15 points for the Lady Gators.

Closing out the tournament on Thursday, the Lady Raiders (2-7) will play Douglas Byrd High School (1-6). Tip-off is set for 10:30 a.m. at South View High School.
