Richmond volleyball can’t even series with Union Pines

CAMERON — Another competitive match yielded a close loss for the Richmond Senior High School volleyball team Tuesday.

Continuing Sandhills Athletic Conference action on the road at Union Pines High School, the Lady Raiders suffered a 3-0 defeat.

While Richmond wasn’t able to win a set, the team did keep the scores close. Set scores were 18-25, 21-25, 16-25.

The loss marked the second time this season the Lady Raiders lost to the Lady Vikings (11-6, 5-4). Richmond has won just one of its last 10 matches.

Thursday will be senior night for the Lady Raiders (6-12, 2-8 SAC), who will recognize their three players ahead of a home match against Lee County High School (10-6, 4-5 SAC).

The pre-match ceremony will start around 5:45 p.m. with the contest to follow.

JV Lady Raiders force third set

The Richmond junior varsity volleyball team managed to force a third set Tuesday, but couldn’t earn the victory.

Also on the road at Union Pines, the JV Lady Raiders lost 2-1. Set scores were 18-25, 25-17 and 8-15.

The JV Lady Raiders (7-10, 4-6 SAC) will also host Lee County Thursday. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
