FAYETTEVILLE — Showing fight down the final stretch of the season, the Richmond Senior High School girls’ junior varsity basketball team earned its seventh win on Friday.

A couple nights after losing to Pinecrest High School, the JV Lady Raiders took care of business against Jack Britt High School on the road. Behind a 12-point night from sophomore Raven Robinson, Richmond defeated the Lady Buccaneers 43-19.

The Lady Raiders returned to the .500 mark with the win. Richmond now sits at 7-7 overall and 5-5 against Sandhills Athletic Conference opponents.

Adding to Robinson’s 12 points were nine points from freshman Nyla Stroman, and six more points from Joy Styles. Eight total Richmond players scored at least a basket in the win.

Other scorers included Daniah McDonald (5 points), C’Nedra Hinson (5 points), and EJ Davis, Da’Veah Robinson and Devaeh Wall each scored two points.

“I liked the way we jumped on Jack Britt right from the start of the game,” first-year head coach Demi Watkins said. “We had a huge first quarter, and Raven showed off again in this game.

“I hope she finishes the season with the hot hand that she has right now,” she added.

Richmond rolled out to a 20-4 lead in the first quarter, seeing Raven Robinson pocket two three-pointers for a team-high six points. Stroman and McDonald each netted a triple and a basket, and Styles got on the board with her first four points.

The Lady Bucs outscored Richmond 7-4 in the second quarter, but the Lady Raiders took a 24-11 lead into the break.

Raven Robinson added her final six points in the third quarter, all coming on field goals. Stroman kept the Lady Raiders ahead with four more points, and Davis, Hinson and Styles added two points each in the 16-point frame.

Hinson’s three points in the fourth quarter were all Richmond would manage, but it was too late for Jack Britt to attempt a comeback. The Lady Bucs didn’t manage to score any points in the final eight minutes.

Richmond will hit the road Tuesday for a game at Hoke County High School, which will get underway at 5 p.m.
