Rockets, Red Rams to play in scrimmage on Wednesday

On Wednesday afternoon, the football teams from Rockingham Middle and Hamlet Middle will travel to Spring Hill Middle School for the annual Spartan Football Jamboree.

The preseason scrimmage event will feature 10 middle school programs from Richmond, Scotland, Robeson and Marlboro counties.

In an email sent to the athletic directors of the participating schools, Spring Hill athletic director Dan Hersey provided information to be shared with parents and visitors planning to attend the event.

“Please stress to your parents that we will not be allowing admission until 3:45,” Hersey shared in the email.  “They will not be allowed to park in the bus loop, please park in the back parking lot, opposite side of the school from the athletic fields.”

If you are unfamiliar with the layout of the school, just use the school’s second entrance if arriving from the south (which you likely are if you are coming from Richmond County).  The first entrance is just next to the athletic fields, but it enters the bus loop that Hersey is asking you to avoid.

The first scrimmage will begin at 4 p.m. Scrimmage games will last 20 minutes. Each team will be on offense for 10 plays and defense for 10 plays, with each possession beginning at their opponent’s 40-yard line. A team can return to the 40-yard line as often as needed if they still have plays available.

Rockingham Middle will face South Robeson at 4 p.m., Prospect at 4:25 p.m., Lumberton at 4:50 p.m. and Carver at 6:05 p.m.  Hamlet Middle will play host Spring Hill at 4 p.m, St. Pauls at 4:25 p.m. and Lumberton at 5:15 p.m.

Admission to the event will be $3 for adults and $2 for students. Concessions will be available.
