ROCKINGHAM – For the sixth straight season, a championship photo will be hung in Rockingham Middle School’s gymnasium commemorating its Lady Rockets volleyball team.
In championship match action Monday, the Lady Rockets hosted, and defeated, Anson Middle School’s Blue team in the Southeast Middle School Athletic Conference championship match. The victory is the sixth consecutive championship that the Lady Rockets have brought home.
In a best of five matchup, the Lady Rockets only needed three sets to take the crown. The scores for the match were 25-10, 25-19 and 25-16. Starting players for Rockingham were Edriana Davis, Catherine Dennis, Kenleigh Frye, Madison Jenkins, Joy Styles and Allyiah Swinney.
“In my opinion, this was our best game so far,” Rockingham head coach Teresa Mason said after the win. “I feel like the girls did what they needed to do to secure the win.”
Davis led all scorers with a match-best 16 points. Also chipping in significant performances for the Lady Rockets were Jenkins (13 points), Frye (10 points) and Dennis (eight points). Allie Rodgers and Miccah Wall each contributed two points, while Styles rounded the scoring out with one point.
The Lady Rockets ended their season with an 11-1 record. Their only loss of the season came in the latter half of the regular season to Anson Blue.
