ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Raider varsity football team is in the win column, and with the victory, comes another group of the team’s standout players.

Continuing a new initiative by head coach Brad Denson and his coaching staff, Richmond will recognize a select group of varsity players each game week.

Sponsored by Top Guns Strength and Performance Gym, the Raiders will name “players of the week” in five separate categories: offense, defense, special teams, practice and weight room.

Following the Raiders’ 26-7 blowout win over Butler High School in Week 2, the players of the week are:

Offense: Daylyn Robinson (junior offensive tackle)

Defense: Joe Parsons (senior linebacker)

Special Teams: Chris Covington (senior defensive back)

Practice: David Oliver (junior defensive back)

Weight Room: Javion Smith (senior running back)

The Raiders’ players of the week are selected by Denson and the coaching staff based on each player’s contributions and achievements in the respected category. They also received a t-shirt from Top Guns.

Richmond (1-1) will travel to non-conference Cardinal Gibbons High School (1-0) Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Raleigh.
