ROCKINGHAM — Both of Richmond Senior High School’s basketball teams will get a much-deserved break heading into the annual conference tournament.

As the regular season closed Friday with a pair of victories for the Raiders and Lady Raiders over Scotland High School, the next phase of the season is the Sandhills Athletic Conference championship tournament.

Each team also won the SAC regular-season title outright, giving the Raiders (19-5, 12-0 SAC) and Lady Raiders (20-4, 12-0 SAC) a first-round bye.

Lady Raiders return to semifinal round Wednesday

Head coach Teddy Moseley and the No. 1 Lady Raiders will get a couple extra days of practice before hosting the winner of No. 4 Lee County (10-10, 6-6 SAC) and No. 5 Pinecrest (7-15, 5-7 SAC).

The Lady Raiders last made the SAC championship tournament title game during the 2021-22 season as the top seed, but lost to Pinecrest.

Wednesday’s game will start at 6 p.m. at Richmond.

Raiders to host semifinal round Thursday

Getting an additional day of rest and practice, the No. 1 Raiders will prepare for their semifinal game. Head coach Donald Pettigrew and the Raiders will host the winner of No. 4 Pinecrest (13-9, 7-5 SAC) and No. 5 Scotland (9-15, 4-8 SAC).
