SANFORD — The excitement of senior year has ramped up recently for local baseball player Camron Seagraves.

A Richmond County native, Seagraves signed his National Letter of Intent to play Division I college baseball last week.

A high school senior, Seagraves, a pitcher, transferred to Grace Christian School earlier this school year.

He played his first three seasons of varsity baseball at Richmond Senior High School and was a two-time all-conference selection for the Raiders.

Signing his NLI to Campbell University, Seagraves made his journey complete after verbally committing to the Camels during the fall of his junior year.

“It was exciting to finally put pen to paper and have that out of the way so I can focus on what’s coming this season,” Seagraves said. “And it was nice to have family and friends there to support me.”

Attending the signing day were Seagraves’ parents Tony and Melissa, along with his younger sister Katie and girlfriend Emma Altman, among others.

As he gets ready for his senior season, Seagraves said he hopes to win a state championship with the Crusaders and will continue to prepare for the next level.

While he’s officially signed to play at Campbell, Seagraves said the ultimate goal is to get drafted by a Major League Baseball organization coming out of high school.

Seagraves will get a chance to put his talents to the test at the Prep Baseball Super 60 Pro Showcase in February.

Returning for its 22nd year, the “prestigious, invitation-only event features only the top draft prospects,” its website says.

At the showcase in McCook, Ill., Seagraves will workout in front of MLB scouts from all 30 clubs. Notable Super 60 alumni include Henry Davis (No. 1 overall pick, Pittsburgh Pirates) and Max Clark (No. 3 overall pick, Detroit Tigers).

According to his player profile on Prep Baseball’s website, Seagraves has hit a maximum speed of 92 miles per hour on his fastball with a 2,188 spin rate.

Other pitches in his repertoire include a curveball (80-81 mph), slider (77-81 mph) and change-up (78-80 mph).

Seagraves’ other notable metrics according to Prep Baseball are 6.90 seconds (60-yard dash), 85 mph (infield velocity), 90.3 mph (exit velocity) and 73.3 mph (bat speed).

“I’m really honored to be invited,” Seagraves said. “I’ve seen so many kids get drafted who have attended the Super 60 showcase. It’s a big step in the right way for my professional career.

“My goal is to get my name out to more MLB teams and pitch well in front of some higher-up scouts,” he added.

This offseason, Seagraves has been hard at work conditioning for what he hopes will be a successful spring and summer. He’s been focused on several areas to help better his pitching performance.

“My training really consists of trying to get stronger in the weight room and perfect my pitching mechanics,” Seagraves closed.

“I’ve been working on staying connected with my back foot and working on my shoulder placement to better my command.”
