CAMERON — Beginning its season Thursday, the Richmond Senior High School boys track and field team competed to a second-place finish.

Like their Lady Raider counterparts, the Raiders finished in between Union Pines and Lee County high schools in the Sandhills Athletic Conference meet.

The Raiders collected 40 points, behind Union Pines (57 points) and ahead of Lee County (20 points).

Richmond secured three first-place wins and added five second-place and five third-place marks to earn points.

Leading the Raiders with a win apiece were Keonta Pegues in the long jump (20 feet, 5 inches), Domonic Tillman in the 110-meter hurdles (18.09 seconds) and Tyrene McKenzie in the high jump (6 feet).

Richmond tallied second and third-place finishes in three different events — the 800-meter and 1600-meter runs, along with the discus throw.

In the discus, Kamel Tillman’s toss of 83 feet, 1 inch was good for second place. Following in third place was Jordan Hamilton (81 feet, 7 inches).

The Raiders’ other two second-place results were Pegues in the 100-meter dash (11.67 seconds) and the 4×800-meter relay team (10:12.08).

Richmond placed third in the 400-meter dash and the long jump. McKenzie landed at a final mark of 18 feet, 10 inches in the field event and Ahjujuan Ewing ran the open 400 in 57.22 seconds.

The Raiders will have a home meet Thursday against Hoke County and Southern Lee high schools. Events will start at 5 p.m.
