LUMBERTON — The cross country trail at Luther Britt Park saw action for the second straight week as four Sandhills Athletic Conference schools met in Lumberton on Tuesday.

Richmond Senior High School’s boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed against host Lumberton High School, as well as fellow SAC opponents Pinecrest and Seventy-First high schools in their second respective 3.2-mile race this fall.

At the time of publication, all reported times are unofficial and no team scores have been given. ROSports will update them upon receiving official scores and times.

A week after placing six runners in the top 10 and taking first overall, the Lady Raiders faced some tougher competition. Dropping an overall spot to third place, but still finishing first for the Lady Raiders was senior Airel Brown. Her time of 22:58 was 18 seconds slower than her Week 1 performance.

Two other Lady Raiders finished in the top 10, seeing sophomore Maylyn Wallace take seventh overall (25:15) and freshman Sheccid Heaton crossed the finish line in ninth place (25:56). Wallace took over 5:01 off her time from Week 1, and Heaton also improved, taking 4:04 off.

Rounding out the top seven runners for the Lady Raiders, whose times all count toward the total team score, were: senior Abby Calhoun (13th, 27:16), junior Zamiya McInnis (14th, 27:33), junior Allyson Legget (16th, 27:58) and freshman Rylie Bohman (17th, 27:59).

Calhoun, McInnis, Leggett and Bohman all took over at least two minutes off their respective times.

In the boys’ race, Pinecrest would dominate the competition, seeing its runners take the first 10 spots. Junior Carson Jordan would lead the pack for Richmond, finishing 11th overall with a time of 19:46, an even 20 seconds faster than his performance a week prior.

Senior Joey Nicholson ran for the first time this fall, posting a 19th-place time of 20:33. Behind him were junior Joshua Wallace (35th, 23:54) and junior Will Thompson (36th, 24:06). Freshman Ethan McDonald took 2:41 off his time from his first race, placing 43rd overall with a mark of 27:19.

The final two Raider runners were senior Devon Tillman (46th, 28:45) and freshman Kodie Simmons (47th, 29:45).

Both Richmond teams will run next Tuesday in their lone home meet of the season at Hinson Lake at Rockingham. The seniors on both teams will be recognized ahead of the 5 p.m. start time.
