ROCKINGHAM — Senior soccer player Sheccid Heaton has been named the Official Richmond County Female Student-Athlete of the Week presented by HWY 55.
Over the last handful of games, Heaton has turned up her production on offense for the Lady Raiders during the final stretch of the regular season and conference tournament.
Earning her first career selection, Heaton scored five goals in a three-game span, bringing her season total to seven goals.

“IN THE NET” WITH SHECCID HEATON
Richmond went on a three-game winning streak to close the regular season and start the Sandhills Athletic Conference tournament. The Lady Raiders defeated Southern Lee, Scotland and Hoke County high schools.
Scoring in all three games, Heaton also contributed one assist.
On senior night against Southern Lee, Heaton was one of five goal scorers to help the Lady Raiders clinch a 6-0 victory. Her goal came in the 78th minute on a second-chance opportunity in front of the net, the final goal of the game.
Following that performance, Heaton netted a pair of goals in a 6-1 win against Scotland in the regular-season finale on the road.
She, along with fellow senior Cheyenne Jacobs, each scored two goals. Heaton’s assist was in this game, sliding a pass to Jacobs in the 2nd minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Before the end of the first half, Heaton scored both of her goals to give Richmond a 3-1 lead. Her first tally was a redirect with her body on a rebound in the 31st minute and she scored her other one from the top right corner of the 18-yard box with 55 seconds left on the clock.
Richmond earned the No. 4 seed in the SAC tournament and hosted No. 5 Hoke County in the first round. Heaton scored a game-high two goals as part of a 4-1 win.
On an assist from sophomore Hanna Smith in the 50th minute, Heaton ripped a shot from the top of the box to make it 1-0. In the 78th minute, Heaton scored again, this time shooting the ball inside the left post on an assist from Jacobs.
Richmond (13-8-1) is on the bubble of the NCHSAA 4A East playoffs and will find out Friday whether or not its season will continue.
