ROCKINGHAM — The mood for Halloween weekend was personified by the Richmond Senior High School baseball program on Thursday.

The Raiders’ annual Halloween Game dusted up the diamond with an assortment of costumes, characters and a lot of smiles to close out fall workouts.

The intersquad scrimmage, led by first year head coach Eric Brown, saw teams play a game fashioned after the Savannah Bananas. Each inning was its own “game” and the team that won the inning earned a point.

Senior Isaac Hinshaw (banana) was the team captain for the winning squad, which earned a 5-1 victory.

Joining him were senior James Eason (banana), juniors Riley Brown (business man), Landon Taylor (prisoner), Brooks Calhoun (medical patient) and Allen Taylor (tiger), sophomore Hayden Wheeler (dinosaur) and freshmen Collin Hill (body builder) and Jakob Trexler (Ace Ventura).

Serving as the other team captain was senior Zane Searcy (burrito). His roster was made up of seniors Davis Faw (inflatable sign), Cain Hunsucker (pickle) and Jeremiah Ritter (tennis player), juniors Conner Phifer (business man) and Jason Walker (Jake from State Farm), sophomore Colton Brown (Chucky) and freshman Graham Odom (Grim Reaper).

Eric Brown did all of the pitching as the Burger King mascot. Assistants Corey Wallace (former player Eric Brown), Anthony Hailey (pickle) and Andy Shuler (Mox from Varsity Blues) joined in the fun.

A light way to end fall workouts, Brown said the program will enter a month-long dead period and begin winter training in late November.
