Six wrestlers bring home medals

TRINITY, N.C. — The Real Wrestlers Real Heroes wrestling club competed in its biggest tournament ever on Saturday, with nearly 400 wrestlers competing at Trinity High School.

Nine members of the club competed over the weekend, with six wrestlers bringing home medals. 

Mary Williams placed first in the girls’ 185-pound division, Gregory Estridge placed second in the bantom 70-pound division, Isaac Nunley placed second in the elementary 135-pound division, Conner Smith placed second in the elementary 85-pound division, Shia Lloyd placed third in the girls’ 138-pound division and K’Mauri Morgan placed third in a “stacked 220-pound high school division.”

“The wrestlers are showing great improvements every week,” head coach Earl Nicholson said. “If you’re looking for an activity that teaches great work ethic and discipline, the Real Wrestlers Real Heroes club is still taking athletes ages seven up and weights from 50 pounds up. 

“Our club currently has over 20 members. Our next practice will be Sunday at the Richmond County Ninth Academy from 4 to 6 p.m.”

The club’s next competition will be at UNC Pembroke on Saturday, April 1.
