ROCKINGHAM — A to-be-determined date on the 2024 schedule for Rockingham Dragway has been filled in.

“Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings,” which will be shooting its seventh season, recently announced that it would be returning to the Rock October 11-12 for its final episode.

Season 7 kicks off April 19-20 at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, Pennsylvania, making stops along the country before finishing up at the Rock.

The show, which airs on the Discovery Channel, came to Rockingham to record for Season 5 in 2022.

Since then, the track has undergone — and is undergoing — several repairs and renovations.

“Having a full season under our belt and completing a vast list of facility upgrades, we are excited to be able to host the seventh season of “Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings,’” Dragway co-owner Dan VanHorn told the RO on Thursday.

VanHorn, who purchased the track with Al Generalli from longtime owner Steve Earwood, added that they are “proud to bring back this massive show to your hometown track and being the season finale event, it is sure to be incredible.”

Street Outlaws driver Lizzy Musi, of Mooresville, will be making an appearance at another no prep event, Dig or Die, March 22-23. Musi was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023.

Motorsports has long been a driving force in tourism for Richmond County, with the Dragway taking the wheel following the loss of NASCAR to neighboring Rockingham Speedway.

According to VanHorn, Street Outlaws brought 18,000 people to the Rock in 2022.

“‘Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings’ is the creme de la creme of heart-pounding adrenaline-fueled drag racing excitement,” said Richmond County Tourism Director Meghann Lambeth. “To say we are excited for this program to return to The Rock is an absolute understatement.

“Having personally witnessed the enormity of the October 2022 event in the second to last race of the fifth season, I can attest to the tremendous positive impact this series has on not only our community, but our entire region and the state of North Carolina,” Lambeth added. “Congratulations to Al, Dan and their crew at Rockingham Dragway and welcome back Street Outlaws!”

The 2024 season at the Dragway revs up March 15-17 with the Billy Weeks Shamrock Challenge, named in honor of the track’s late operations manager of the track who passed away in 2022.
