ROCKINGHAM — Part of a four-game sweep against Scotland High School Tuesday, the Richmond junior varsity girls’ basketball team got back in the win column.

Returning to action for the first time in over a week, the JV Lady Raiders defeated the JV Lady Fighting Scots 47-26.

With just five players on its roster, Richmond held Scotland to single digits in all four quarters.

“I’m so proud of how these girls played,” head coach Tonia Breeden said. “They came out with energy and kept it up. They hustled extremely hard all game.

“Audicy (Rush) played a great game for us,” she added. “Her defense was tight, and she set some amazing screens on offense. She did all the not-so-little things that aren’t easily seen that help win games. I can’t say enough about how well all the girls played.”

A trio of players netted double-digits for the JV Lady Raiders — Kaniah Little (16 points), Iyana Little (14 points) and Olivia Brown (13 points). Ny’Aziah Wilson added four points.

Richmond opened the game on a 7-4 run with all of its points coming from Kaniah Little. She scored two buckets and three free throws.

A 14-4 performance in the second quarter in favor of the JV Lady Raiders led to a 21-8 lead at halftime.

Kaniah Little went 2-for-2 at the line to give her nine points at the break. Getting into the scoring column were Iyana Little and Brown, both with six points.

Iyana Little scored on three field goals, while Brown drained a pair of shots from the stripe to go along with two buckets.

Extending their lead to 37-17 after three complete, four JV Lady Raiders scored as part of a 16-point third quarter.

Brown led the way with her final seven points thanks to two field goals and three free throws. Wilson scored all four of her points in the win on two baskets.

Kaniah Little (three points) and Iyana Little (two points) combined for the final five points of the third.

Closing the door with 10 more points in the final eight minutes, Iyana Little led the way with six points on three baskets. Kaniah Little chipped in four points on two shots.

With all five players playing all 32 minutes, Richmond held Scotland to four points in each of the first two quarters and nine points in both second-half quarters.

The JV Lady Raiders (5-4, 3-1 Sandhills Athletic Conference) will host Pinecrest High School next Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
