Strong second half helps Red Rams past Carver, remain undefeated

LAUREL HILL — Keeping pace at the top of the Southeastern Middle School Athletic Conference standings, the Hamlet boys’ basketball team added another win to its record on Wednesday.

Playing at Carver Middle School and making up a game from last Thursday’s wintry weather, the Red Rams earned a 56-18 win.

The victory for head coach Keith Parsons and the Red Rams extended the team’s winning streak to five games.

Currently, Hamlet and rival Rockngham have matching records on the season and are atop the standings with a 5-0 record.

The first half was slow going for the Red Rams, who took a 15-9 lead into halftime.

But a barrage of scoring in the second half helped the Red Rams take control, which opened the game up for the 38-point victory. Hamlet outscored the Eagles 41-9 in the second half.

Impressing on both ends of the floor was Terande Spencer. He finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing a team-high 16 rebounds.

The Red Rams (5-0) will travel to Anson Middle School on Thursday with the boys starting around 5 p.m.
