The second full week of summer break carries a busy schedule for local sports leagues and programs at Richmond Senior High School.

Post 49 prepares for 5-game week

Monday will mark the start of five games in six days for the Hamlet American Legion baseball team (6-3, 2-0 Area 2).

With only one home game in that stretch, Post 49 will spend most of its week along the coast. The team will play at Wilmington Post 10 on Monday in a pivotal conference game (7 p.m.).

Hamlet will then play at Ashley Post 129 for another Area 2 contest on Tuesday before returning home on Wednesday for a conference meeting with Hope Mills Post 32. Both games are slated for 7 p.m.

The 49ers will cap their week on Friday and Saturday as part of the UNCW Invitational. Up first will be conference foe Brunswick Post 543 (Friday, 2:30 p.m.), followed by Plymouth Post 164 (Saturday, 1 p.m.).

Richmond Renegades continue summer play

Richmond summer development baseball teams are scheduled for a home-and-home series with Scotland High School this week.

Continuing Central Carolina Scholastic Summer League play, the junior varsity team (1-1-1) and the varsity Renegades (1-1) will open their two-game week at Scotland on Tuesday.

The series finales will be played at Richmond on Thursday. JV will start at 4 p.m. and be followed by varsity at 6 p.m.

RSHS volleyball camp, workouts begin this week

Monday will start the Lady Raider volleyball program’s fourth annual summer camp, which will be a three-day camp.

Held in Richmond’s gymnasium, the camp will run from 8 to 10 a.m. Campers can still register on the first day of camp for a cost of $50.

For an hour each day after camp, team workouts will be held for rising ninth through 12th graders, head coach Ashleigh Larsen said.

RSHS basketball teams back in action

Both the Richmond boys’ and girls’ basketball programs are set to continue their respective summer development campaigns this week, too.

The Raiders will host the Richmond Raider Classic on Monday and Tuesday and feature a handful of teams from around the region.

Then on Thursday, head coach Donald Pettigrew and the Raiders will compete in the three-day East Coast Invitational Tournament in Jacksonville, N.C. No schedules were available at the time of publication.

The Lady Raiders, who had a good run through a series of summer jamborees last week, will close out their summer schedule with two team camps. Richmond will go to Campbell University on Tuesday and compete at UNC-Charlotte on Friday.

RSHS football workouts continue, first 7-on-7 scrimmage

The Richmond football program started offseason workouts last week and will continue this week. Also, the first of three 7-on-7 scrimmages will be held on the Raiders’ practice fields on Wednesday.

Set for a 10:15 a.m. start, the Raiders will welcome in Cheraw, Montgomery Central and Overhills high schools.

RSHS soccer to begin summer workouts

Also back on the turf this week will be the Richmond boys’ soccer program. Head coach Chris Larsen announced that workouts will run Monday through Thursday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Any student-athlete wanting to participate in summer workouts must have the necessary paperwork completed on DragonFly before being doing so.

The Richmond Observer will continue its coverage of summer baseball, volleyball camp, football and soccer later this week.
