ROCKINGHAM — Following the Thanksgiving holiday break, Richmond Senior High School’s winter sports schedule will heat up this week.
For the first time this season, all seven of Richmond’s winter sports programs will face competition.
Lady Raider basketball seeks return to win column
Suffering a pair of losses last week, the Richmond girls’ basketball team will have three chances to add wins this week.
Richmond (2-2) will start with a home game Tuesday against Grace Christian School (4-1), which is the reigning NCISAA 2A state champion.
That will be followed by the team’s Sandhills Athletic Conference opener at Southern Lee High School (1-2) Friday. Both games are slated for 6 p.m.
Traveling Saturday, the Lady Raiders will play at Overhills High School (3-2) at 11:30 a.m.
The Richmond junior varsity girls’ basketball team (1-1) won’t play this week and will return Dec. 10.
Raider hoops trying to keep momentum going
Following its first win of the season Saturday, the Richmond boys’ basketball team also has three chances to add to its win total.
The Raiders (1-2) will host Grace Christian (2-5) Tuesday and travel to Southern Lee (5-0) Friday. Both games will start around 7:30 p.m. after the varsity girls’ games.
A road trip Saturday will see Richmond play at Apex Friendship High School (2-2) at 3:30 p.m.
The JV Raiders (0-2) will play just one game this week. That will be Tuesday at home against Grace Christian, starting at 5:15 p.m.
Bowling, swimming teams return for second meet
A two-week hiatus for the Richmond boys’ and girls’ bowling and swimming teams will come to an end this week.
Returning to the pool Wednesday, the Raider and Lady Raider swim teams will compete in their second SAC meet of the season. Events will begin at 6 p.m. at St. Andrews University.
The Raider (1-1) and Lady Raider (2-0) bowlers will also compete for the second time this winter. Thursday’s matches against Union Pines and Hoke County high schools will start at 4 p.m. at Laurinburg Lanes.
Raider wrestling set for two more meets
Another program that will get back to action after taking time off for the holiday will be the Raider wrestling team.
Richmond (2-0) will wrestle Wednesday at non-conference Montgomery Central High School (5 p.m.) and follow that with another non-conference competition at Anson High School Saturday (9 a.m.).
Indoor track and field opens season
The final winter sports program to begin its season will be the Lady Raider indoor track and field team.
Richmond will make the trip to Union Pines High School Saturday. Events for the meet will begin at 9 a.m.
Raider cheerleaders to contend for state title
Richmond’s cheerleading team will compete in its second of three competitions this school year Saturday.
The Raider cheerleaders will visit the Raleigh Convention Center and will participate in the NCHSAA state championship. Richmond will compete in the Division I Co-Ed Non-Tumbling bracket.
The start time for Richmond’s routine is set for 8:44 p.m.
